The ROAD that will connect Volcan with Boquete is under construction.
THE ROAD From Volcan to Boquete
by Peter & Louise Mahoney for Noticias Bajareque Times
Sounds like a Bing Crosby / Bob Hope movie, but in reality it is the building of the "south" route that will connect the communities of the highlands from Boquete to Volcan. At its western end it will link to the Los Naranjos-Cordillera-Cuesta de Piedra road that connects to the Bugaba-Volcan road at Los Pinos lecheria, just south of Volcan.

When we told our friends that our road here in Cordillera was to be paved, everyone said, "oh yeah, they say that about all the roads, all the time". Then the survey stakes went in, and friends said, "They won't last long, they'll be firewood in no time". But on the 19th of January big equipment started to creep up our hilly dirt road. You could hear them coming for an hour before sighting the massive back hoe.
Since then there has been a flurry of activity, with workmen cutting the brush and trees along the road, and farmers removing the barbed wire off their fences. These fences must be moved back to a new line to make room for the wider road of 6.6 meters. The trees that made up the living fences are succumbing to the shear force of the plow. So our tree lined picturesque lane is now becoming wide and clear. Each day the portion of the road receiving major changes drives its way south. All the while, groups of neighbors dig at the side of the road, trying to repair the water lines that have been unavoidably mangled by the machinery, attempting to reconnect them before the next milking of the cows.
